Biggest. Cinematic. Letdown. Ever.After showing mad personal style throughout the entire movie (no one, and I mean no one, rocks pearls and flowered fabric like Molly Ringwald), the girl shows up defiantly at prom to prove to the world and to Blaine, the insipid boy with the crazy eyes and white pleated pants, that she's not broken.
Um, it's just a thought, but she might have chosen a more suitable dress to take a stand in, something that didn't scream "home-sewn hot mess."
Andie should have left Fiona's dress alone. I want to bitch slap that polyester Frankenfrock with the collar and mesh insert, shred it, and burn it. Oh, wait—it's probably flame retardant. Fire bad.
Let's hope Andie got that scholarship and used it at FIT or Parsons.

I'm glad you said that, I always preferred the original dress and wasn't sure why people complimented the new version.(I didn't say anything because I thought maybe I was the fashion challenged one.)
She lost me at the prom dress.
I remember seeing this in the theatre and hearing a collective sad sigh from the audience when she appeared in that f'd up home-ec project dress. My friend leaned over and whispered, "I thought it was going to be a pretty dress." Glad you've brought this to light!

I am watching this movie now and if I were Iona, I would sue her for malpractice. Why in Sam Hill did she tear up a vintage dress and do that to it for?
And the lace that she used from her father's well-meaning pink foil-esque disaster.

You are all missing the point, they have no money, the dress was "home made" and she got to the prom. I guess none of you have ever experienced the "no money" issue therefore you can't relate to what this dress was all about!! Sorry you don't understand, get real!!
